July 28 is World Hepatitis Day

Posted by & filed under Blog, Member News, Newsroom.

Hepatitis is swelling and inflammation of the liver.  Hepatitis may start and get better quickly (acute hepatitis), or cause long-term disease (chronic hepatitis).  In some instances, it may lead to liver damage, liver failure, or even liver cancer.

Hepatitis kills around one million people every year. Millions more suffer immediate sickness or long-term ill health.  World Hepatitis Day provides an opportunity to recognize viral hepatitis as a major global health problem in order to advance prevention and control.
