COVID-19 Outpatient Medical Services and Elective Surgery
Date: 04/29/20
On Friday, April 24, 2020, a State Health Officer’s Order was issued from Dr. Thomas Dobbs, for the provision of Outpatient Medical Services and Elective Surgery, effective until May 18, 2020, unless revoked prior to that time.
Per the order, non-urgent Tier 1 outpatient medical services should be delayed or occur via telehealth; Tier 2 and Tier 3 outpatient medical services can be reinstated based on physician judgment.
Also, only Tier 2 and 3 surgeries and procedures should be performed at this time, consistent with the clinical judgment of the treating physician. Tier 1a and 1b surgeries and procedures must be delayed. However, if a Tier 1a or 1b surgery or procedure cannot be delayed in the clinical judgement of the treating physician, then the procedure may occur under the guidance for non-emergent treatment, non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures provided in the State Health Officer Order (please see the Mississippi State Department of Health website at https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/resources/8602.pdf for the full order).
